The Parker Solar Probe is a NASA space probe launched in August 2018 with the goal of studying the outer atmosphere of the Sun, known as the solar corona. The probe is named after Eugene Parker, a pioneering scientist who first proposed the concept of solar wind. The Parker Solar Probe's mission is to gather data on the Sun's magnetic field, solar wind, and other phenomena to help scientists better understand solar activity and its effects on Earth and the rest of the solar system. The probe will travel closer to the Sun than any previous spacecraft, reaching as close as 4 million miles from the Sun's surface.
